Story, Folklore, History

Gymnema Sylvestre or Gurmar,  is a tropical plant, native to southern and central India and parts of Africa.
For centuries, it has been known in Indian Ayurvedic medicine as “destroyer of sugar “, as chewing of its leaves, causes loss of a sweet taste and inhibits cravings for sweets.

It is believed that Gymnema Sylvestre can regulate blood glucose levels throughout the body. Due to the presence of compounds, known as gymnemic acids, which binds to taste receptors on the tongue, it reduces or eliminates the ability to perceive sweetness. It is also a diuretic, which can expel harmful toxins from the body.

Gymnema can be consumed as a tea, or powder, which can be sprinkled lightly on your tongue or diluted in water.
