Turmeric Root C/S
Cut turmeric root gives you everything the powder does without the sludge at the bottom of the cup. The pieces infuse cleanly and strain out, which is the whole reason to buy it this way and organic cut turmeric is genuinely hard to find, since most of the market moves as powder.
The flavour is warm and earthy with a mustardy edge and a peppery finish, subtly sweet underneath. It's the backbone of a golden latte, excellent in chai, and it holds its own alongside ginger, cinnamon and black pepper.
It also infuses cold. A handful left in milk in the fridge overnight makes a turmeric milk concentrate ready to drink or stir into chai, something you simply can't do with powder.
Using cut root instead of powder: use about twice as much by volume. If a recipe calls for 1 tsp of powder, start with 2 tsp of cut root and adjust to taste.
