Darjeeling Black, Vintage Autumn Flush

We are pleased to offer this very special, highly prized and quite rare Darjeeling tea type from the last year’s Autumn harvest, Autumn vintage. Mohogany-colored leaves with slightly spicy scent, almost like nutmeg and cinnamon, give an infusion that is clear and transparent with a golden-coppery tint. The flavor is distinct from both first and second flush, less floral and delicate then the opening flushes, but deeply fruity with notes of ripe grapes and berries.

Makaibari Estate is the oldest and one of the most celebrated of the 87 gardens in Darjeeling district, located in the Kurseong South Valley, at approximately 4,500 feet elevation.

In 1970 Makaibari became a pioneer in the tea industry when it first embraced biodynamic principles of farming becoming the first organic tea garden in the Darjeeling District.

Certified Fair Trade in 1993, Makaibari has used their premiums to provide stipends for University studies, education investments and health training, among many other initiatives.
