Smoked Maple - a wonderfully bold but smooth blend of dark, full-bodied oolong and a sweetly aromatic maple. Ingredients: organic Wuyi Rock, organic Safflower, natural essences.
Moroccan Mint - minty, smoky, full-bodied blend of peppermint and green tea. Also makes a great iced tea! Ingredients: organic Green Tea, organic Peppermint.
Orange Black - a blend of Indian black teas infused with a natural orange flavor and orange peel. Add an ounce of whisky and a lemon or orange wedge for a great tasting hot toddy. Ingredients: organic Black Tea, organic Orange Peel, natural essences.

Before we dive into the recipe for our new favourite cold weather warm up, check out some of the history behind this classic brew.
History of the Hot Toddy
- Toddies came from India, the fermented sap of the toddy plant, named tari in Hindi. The British brought back a version of this brew, and originally it was served cold. Eventually, this brew was served hot as a comforting beverage with the same mix of spirits and spices.
- The hot toddy was based on a Scottish cold remedy of whisky, hot water, and spices such as nutmeg or clove. Suggestions that the name comes Tod’s Well, a source of spring water outside of Edinburgh.
- In Dublin, Ireland, Dr. Robert Bently Todd would recommend a brew of hot whisky, lemon and cinnamon.

Bring the cabane à sucre to you, with maple teas!
It doesn’t get any sweeter (or more Canadian) than maple season! Every year from February-April, farmers in eastern Canada extract the sugary sap from trees to produce maple syrup. According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Canada produces 85% of the world’s maple syrup!
Maple trees produce sugar during the summer before storing it as starch in their root tissues in the winter. The warmer spring temperatures coax the sugar maple trees to turn their stored starch back into sugar. Farmers or sugar-makers tap the trees by drilling a hole in the trunk and attaching a spout with a bucket below to catch the sap.
A popular tradition during maple season is to visit a cabane à sucre, or sugar shack. Visitors to one of these cozy cabins in the woods will enjoy a large feast of bacon, eggs, sausages and pancakes with plenty of fresh maple syrup.
