BLUE UNICORN

Resembling the mythical unicorn’s horn, this remarkable tea is very soft and light, with a slight sweetness and champagne undertones.
Named after the legendary unicorn, these visually captivating spears of Cinnamon, gold, and silver tips are hand crafted and carefully hand-rolled and twisted into spears. Each finished cluster is slightly more than 1 inch in length. These partially fermented leaves produce a delicate, pale liquor that is exceptionally sweet and clean, with champagne undertones. The tea can be steeped multiple times, each revealing new complexities.

The Idulgashinna Tea Garden is located near Haldummulla in the Uva region of central southern Sri Lanka, and has the distinction of being the first tea garden in the world to become organically certified; much of their premium quality tea production is also biodynamically grown. In addition to a strong regard for the environment, the plantation has its own schools, bank and medical centers. Newly constructed housing is spacious and residents are given the rare opportunity to own their own land. This estate produces some of the finest organic green and black teas, highly sought after by connoisseurs. They are an example of excellent tea and high regard for social and environmental concerns.

Blue Unicorn tastes as unique as it looks. It has an interesting combination of a chocolatey aroma with a light champagne flavour. It requires longer steeping than most teas. The first time I brewed it I started with 5 minutes, but it needs at least 7-8 to get the full flavour profile. I brewed it three times, and each infusion was a bit different from the last, but still the same champagne taste. The third infusion was a bit faint however. And it looks fantastic! I keep this in my house just to show off to my friends :P

Taste fantastic, even if you forgot to stop the infusion. Better enjoy in a transparent tea pot – the leaves opens up beautifully.
